Smile Green screen with DSL

Im trying to run Damn Small Linux from a live CD. Everything is fine except I can hardly see the desktop because of its colour. There was another post on here about this but Im finding it hard to follow the advice as I dont think it was aimed at a novice. The advice was to change the resolution but no real instructions were given. the only thing I have been able to do is to change the bit depth of the colour (during boot) from 4 to 32 bit, but very little difference occurs. I have also tried to change the screen resolution to different sizes (also during boot) but this to makes little difference.

The reason for this distro is that the laptop only has 128M RAM and Pentium 2 under 300MHz.

If anyone could start me off on the right path I would be very greatful
TIA

As much as people proclaim Linux is great on old hardware... there is the possibility that DSL (and others) may not be suitable with X windows for your particular laptop.

Personally, I had some old Dell Latitudes that would not display any better than 16 colors. I had some other Latitudes that would only support X using the frame buffer mode.

I rebooted a lot of times, starting at the lowest resolution and worked my way up.
