Angry green screen at slackware 2.4.20-xfs boot

hi. i'm quite new to slackware, and this forum, so i don't know if this has been asked yet. i installed slackware 9 (2.4.20) and patched for xfs.
my setup is as follows:

Athlon XP 2000+
GeForce 3
512 MB DDR
NetworkAnywhere (Linksys) NIC
AMD 761 Northbridge VIA VT82C686 Southbridge

My problem started when i attempted to use ACPI to which i got a 'tried to kill init' kernel Oops when it tried to load the via76x_pm driver (sigh). i disabled ACPI and went with APM and recompiled (following all the steps) and copied my new image to /boot. Now when slackware tries to boot my screen turns green with no output and my caps lock LED on my keyboard just blinks. does anyone have any ideas how i can get this to boot?
