Graphics problems

Hi!
I'm really new on Linux (thats why I'm posting under newbie!), anyway, i've got this problem...
I have after countless tries installed Mandrake and it works fine except somtimes it instead of starting X at bootup goes blinking whit the screen, however, not to often. Lucky me.
Now my big problem is that my screen resolution seems to be locked. I have an Asus motherboard (A7N266-VM) whit integrated Nvidia Geforce2 128MB graphics, but such a chipset is not present under DrakConf so I choose "Generic VGA" instead, nor can I find my monitor, a Sony Multiscan 15fs1 in the list but i've tried whit 15sf2 and other generics instead. Whenever I trie to change my screen res. (e.g. pressing "change X window resolution"), nothing happens. After playing around for hours, trying different settings, programs and hardwareconf i have got warious messages saing like 2no valid modes found try to change some parameters", sometimes my screen go flickering, but most often nothing happens. I'm now stuck under 256 colours as well...
Can anyone please help or give an advise or anything? Thanks in advance!

First thing, download and install Nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. If you have it as generic vga, it works 640x480 only (as far as I remember). When you have the drivers, you should have more options.
