use the gimp for editing, it's a lot like photoshop, for viewing, i personally really like showimg, it's a lot like acdsee for windows, but requires some configuration, i doubt it comes with ubuntu, though, see if your package manager can download and install it.

Gimp is a great editor. Google for Gimpshop, it's Gimp but laid out a little closer to how Photoshop is, might help you get used to it For viewing, I'm a big fan of feh. It's super basic, but does the job and does it damn fast. Ubuntu should have a package for it, try apt-get install feh.

Hi,

If you feel like having a simpler program to work with (you mentioned something like Windows Paint), then you could try
KolourPaint . It can work with different graphics-formats - including jpeg - and reminds a lot of Windows Paint.

You can check out this website: http://kolourpaint.sourceforge.net/

Regards,
Ingar
