Graphics card and processor IRQ conflict

I have a HP Kayak XU, 400mhz P2 processor and a Elsa gloria Synergy graphics card. When i was installing windows a while back i had IRQ conflicts between them. Now i wish to migrate to Linux and have recently got myself a Knoppix live
CD. When i boot it i get the same problem that i had with windows, the resolution and colour depth is terrible, i think it is a IRQ conflict again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
