Graphics card and compiz question

I have an Asus u46e-bal5 laptop with a Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics card. I have been trying to use compiz to its limit and I get crashes at certain times. It does shift switcher and expo effects fine. The water and fire effects work okay. However, whenever I try to enable desktop cube, the top panel that allows you to move windows disappears, as well as the minimize, maximize, and close button. And all windows opened automatically attach to the top left of the screen. Its really annoying. I have to do metacity --replace and restart the laptop to fix it.

I also get a crash when I try blur windows, which completely freezes everything except for the movement of the mouse.

I've had the it updated and downloaded everything I could. AM I missing something, or my graphics card can't handle it?
