graph plotting with scilab5.2.2 in ubuntu

I installed scilab-5.2.2 in ubuntu 9.10. whenever I try to plot a graph scilab closes. Please can anyone help

I don't know nothing about SciLab. I use Maxima, GNU/Octave and gnuplot.

But, where do you start SciLab from? If from a terminal window, you could grab the debug output and show us here.
