I put Gparted on a flash drive w/Linux live and am having some problems getting it to boot.

I'm trying to get it to boot on a win 7 machine.
1st time I booted I got questions about the keyboard (keymap and such). I selected 'full keymap' and chose pc English / something / something.

Gparted started running numbers and commands extremely fast. Just a list of numbers followed by something I couldn't read (going by too fast).
I let it run for 5 minutes and then rebooted.

Every time I start GP I get 4 options.
Default setting
Live to ram
life safe graphical settings
live (fail safe)

There are also options for command line but that means zero to me.

Choosing any options results in seeing the initial splash screen. Nothing happens!

I formatted the flash drive a 2nd time and tried it again....same thing.

Any thoughts?

Try this. When you boot it up next time and it gives you the options, just press 'enter' at every option. If you're an English speaker and have an English/US computer, doing this should work. I use gparted occasionally, and there is no need to edit any of them options.

I don't get the keyboard option anymore. Anyways, I can use the arrow keys to pick the boot option I want and hitting 'e' allows me to edit said options. It's useless to me anyway.

Bottom line...no work...stuck on the splash screen right after the option choice.

Burned it to disc and it booted up just fine...

I got the gui to load so I put in 3 changes. ERROR. Did it again. ERROR. So, I put in one change and hit apply. It supposedly did the change successfully but then 'kernel panic' and it went to text mode and froze up.

ctrl-alt-del and it takes me back to the Gpart load screen. I hit defualt settings and the dvd drive starts spinning and then it just sits on the flash screen, just like with the USB.

Think you better check the md4sum of that iso you burned.

Why would it work the first time and not the 2nd or any other time?

Sorry to ask questions and not just do what you asked me to do. I have no idea how to check the md5sum (it is 5 right?)

MD5SUMS and SHA1SUMS on a windows operating system you need to install a program to use this basic linux operating system function

Microsoft dose NOT support this in the windows os you have to install a program to use it

Almost every distro live cd/dvd/usb either has a partition app or can usually use software manager to add gparted to the live media. Of course it won't be there on next reboot since it is a live install.

By the way, Windows 7 has a good tool and should be used before attempting third party apps. I'd use microsoft's partition tool to be sure it will fully support your attempts.

3tb Seagate internal drive.

OK...I'm learning so I might have shot myself in the foot. I have created a bunch of different partitions messing around with this machine.
NOTE: There is no valuable data on this machine.
I have 2 of the above HDs installed in my machine.

The OS drive is basic / MBR. The OS automatically formatted it w/ a 100mb windows partition and a 2048mb partition. The balance of the HD is unallocated. I want to take advantage of the 745mb that is just sitting unallocated.

The mobo supports uefi and the 2nd drive (GPT format) has 2 partitions. 1 is 2040mb and the other is 694mb. There is also a 60mb unallocated area and I have the option to create a simple a simple volume. I *assume I could then extend that to the 694mb partition to create 2 total partitions on that drive (I'm probably wrong).

I have tried to use EaseUS but the same thing that happens in Disk Manager happens. No option to format the 745mb unallocated disc area.

Tried gparted as live usb. I tried to format the 745 unallocated, delete a small 60mb partition on the 2nd drive and extend one of the other partitions on the same drive.

All 3 would cause gp to do nothing. So I did the 745 format only and it worked...but immediately the kernel freaked out and it froze in text mode. Every time I try to go back in to gp I get the menu screen and then nothing happens.

MS disk manager won't do anything because the 3tb drive is not GPT formatted. *I think*.

you need gdisk for gpt & gpt partitionig scheme for large disks
