gOS 2 Printer Setup

I just purchased my first Linux system, and Everex gOS system. I looked at the help to find how to setup a printer. It had me add two packages, system-config-printer and gnome-cups-manager. After I installed them I had printer functions in the Administrator Menu. I selected "Add A Printer" My HP deskjet printer (4300 series) was not on the printer list. I selected what I thought might be a generic deskjet printer but it did not print. I went to the HP site to find a driver but they don't support Linux printing.

Where can I find printer drivers? is there something I am missing?

gOS probably uses the CUPS printing system. I don't know what tools gOS provides, so I'll tell you the generic setup.

Login as root user, and disconnect from the internet while logged in as root.

Start up a browser. In the URL bar (the web address bar) enter http://localhost:631.

That get's you into printer administration the CUPS way. From this point, you can add a printer. That consists of giving a printer name, the print quality you want, page orientation (portrait or landscape), etc.

Which means, you can create several printers (different names and settings) for different kinds of print tasks. It saves a lot of time spent in page or printer setup before trying to print.
