Google Earth suddenly won't Launch

I've had Google Earth installed on Ubuntu 9.10 for several weeks and it's been fine, up until this morning.
It won't launch. When I click on the icon nothing happens. I can't remember changing anything, except for installing the usual updates.
I've tried re-installing with no change.
Your advice would be appreciated.

Reinstall it.

Or attempt to launch it via the CLI and post the output.

Launch it rom the CLI and post any error you get.

(Sorry I really didn't see that for some strange reason...)

I've just washed my little dog as well as myself, come back in and clicked on Google Earth as a matter of reflex and BINGO! It has lit up like the proverbial Xmas tree!! What in the hell is going on?
