The title says it all. I have a CR-48 that I flashed the BIOS on, and installed Ubuntu. Works great except that my internet speeds are horrible.

I was in my bedroom. I clicked a link in Google. I walked out to the kitchen. Opened the same link on my Windows box and it popped right up. As I type this on my Windows machine, the Ubuntu box still has not pulled the page.

This happens on every page. They either take forever to come up, or I have to stop and reload to get them to come up at all.

Note: I've tried to restart comp and router both.

Slow internet loading is sometimes caused not only by its internet connection, but also by the memory over-usage.

I know this is a bit off-topic, but why would you even want to install an OS into a Chromium Netbook?

This is my hypothesis, it might be wrong but it might help as well.
To load its Desktop, Ubuntu uses quite a lot of memory. Chromium Netbook has a small spec, which doesn't allow it to have heavy programs running with ease.
You said that everything goes well except for the internet, which I think because the Desktop uses almost all of your memory, leaving the browser with almost none.

Now, let me ask you, have you try another OS beside Ubuntu?
Have you ever check the memory usage of your computer (RAM and Processor)?

Have you try using internet with another computer?

I disliked Chrome. I was seriously limited when I didn't have an internet connection.

I didn't realize that Ubuntu was so RAM intensive. The CR-48 has 2GB, though. Ubuntu eats that much?

No. I chose Ubuntu for its ease of installation. I am nearly a complete newb. I did try one other... I can't remember which now, but it didn't want to recognize the SSD.

Yes, my Windows 7 machine on the same wifi network, no problems and I can game on it.

Seems enough ram to me. I don't think the new Ubuntu eats that much yet though I don't run it. Whatever the new Ubuntu uses for a Network manager should give connection speeds. I use Wicd and AntiX with Fluxbox with LXpanels with a wireless usb on a 1 gig of ram Desktop.

Yes, my Windows 7 machine on the same wifi network, no problems and I can game on it.

It is just my hypothesis, try using another OS beside Ubuntu (you will want to use a more lightweight ones like Puppy Linux or Feather Linux) to prove it right or wrong.
At least we know that the problem lies within the PC and not the internet connection.
