hi linux is a good os

towheedm 06-01-2012 12:36 AM

That's why we prefer it over others.

whysoserious 06-01-2012 05:28 AM

Yep. But which distro lol. I think slackware personally.

FreeBSD and its derivatives are pretty good too, Hard rock solid stuff. However lot have to do with the hardware you have. If there is not compatibility with the OS then is a recipe for disaster.
Good luck to you!

That is the main problem. Hardware compatibility. Do you guys know any good sites for drivers for linux? Centos is giving me some problems with the screen res. Need a updated driver..

If there's a proprietary driver then the latest can usually be had from the manufacturer's website. If not then you should be able to google for the latest packages of the open source project (e.g. Nouveau) for your system -- somebody may have packaged them or there may be a repository for newer software. Or, you could try the project website and see whether you can compile a newer version from source.
With CentOS I may be wrong but I would expect your drivers to be a few versions behind due to it begin a stable enterprise-grade OS rather than a cutting edge desktop one.
If you're a bit more specific about the drivers you want I'm sure that if they're available somebody will be using them and be able to let you know how they did it.

Yet another troll? :D
Also Linux is not an OS, it's just a kernel.
