Gnome won't show up
For some reason, I like KDE, but I wanted to try out Gnome, so I decided to reinstall Mandrake 9.2 rc2 with Gnome instead of KDE.
The installation went fine without any problems, but now I am having troubles with Gnome.
When I first typed in "startx" to start X, the usual wizard came up, but Gnome was not listed where KDE had previously been (it only listed "IceWM", "default", and something else (don't remember). I selected "default" and continued on through the wizard. When the wizard closed, so did the X-server, and I was catapulted back to the shell.
Now when I try to start x again, it starts to start (I see the X screen and mouse pointer, but nothing else) but then shuts down and throws me right back to the shell. There's a bunch of warnings stating a bunch of "Symbol map for key <AB05> redefined" (AB05 and so on...).
I've even tried reinstalling Linux again but still have the same problem. Is there something I'm forgetting to install? I selected the "Gnome" box during install (and didn't select the KDE box).
Any help would be appreciated.
