Had a lot of problems recently (posted on this forum some place), my latest being that Suse 10.2 doesn't appear to like Gnome... or at least so i have gathered.
Used Gnome all the time (well last couple of months while been using linux), then had this update hassle.
Reinstalled the lot, this time in KDE... looks very sweet and should def be enough to convince anybody to move from windows to linux.
But, can anybody suggest what is best, without being bias?
Haha, jesus I didn't expect such fast responses lol!
I was told on another thread that the reason my "Start" or "My Computer" button vanished was due to a Gnome problem update within suse... so a re-install and chose KDE... all is fine so far (a little Apple looking but it's cool).
Erm, more to the point, whats the plus and minus factors of both?
Apologies, done a search for them on google images. Yes I see, it has the 3d cube affect but so does Suse 10.2 under Gnome... can this be achived under the KDE environment?
It appears on my google journey that most people appreciate Gnome over KDE. I'm new to linux and started off using Gnome. I only recently reinstalled into KDE mode.
I have to disagree about the speed factor however. This does things much quicker under KDE, and I would have thought it would be the opposite with Gnome looking less "graphical".
Either way, you are most probably right as I have little experience in linux.
Although, could somebody please clear up the rumour that Gnome is "dodgy" under suse?
Oh don't apologise custangro... it's me asking for help and you responded after all, so thanks!
I looked it up. I have only used Ubuntu and Suse (in grand total probably 3 months using linux, and thats dual booting to windows too, so very new to all this).
Any help with my previous question - can i run the fancy 3D Cube effect on Suse 10.2 KDE? Or only Gnome?
Cheers.
(Edit: I mean i looked up Beryl and Compiz)

Distribution: Ubuntu Intrepid and Meerkat, formerly used Debian 3.1 (Sarge) with Gnome Desktop

I prefer Gnome, but I have no real reason aside from thats the environment I have used the most. I too would like to see a holistic comparison of the two one day.
