Anyways, after complete installation of gnome on Slackware 12.1 it is giving me following error when I type "gnome" command:

Try xmwconfig and set it to Gnome and then type startx.

I have never installed gnome on Slack, but does it put a xinitrc.gnome file in /etc/X11/xinit? If so you may need to link it to xinitrc then try just typing startx.
