Gnome Resolution problem (n00b)

Hey all :)
Im a compelte n00b to linux, and I decided that gnome was cooler that KDE, so i installed it on my new suse 9.2 system (64 bit). Anyways, I installed StarCraft and BroodWar with wine and I wanna play and all, but it only appears in that tiny little corner, so I go try to change the resolution to SC's resolution os 640 x 480, but when I look in the preferences, the dropdown has no other entries :(! Its just permanetly stuck in the default. Same with refresh rate. I've tried changing it as root and as a user, but to no avail. Could anyone lend a n00b a hand?

Thanks,
Adamacious

Do you have 3d acceleration running? Have you installed any drivers?(i.e. nvidia or ati)

adamacious 04-13-2005 09:09 AM

thanks for the insanely quick reply!!! :D

I didn't install any drivers yet (my video card is diamond stealth, altho I noticed there is an ATI sticker in the middle of the fan on it). Im not sure it has ne linux drivers out :(.

And how do I tell if I have 3d accelleration on?

Thanks,
Adamacious

Yeah I think those Diamond Stealths are ATI cards. You need to install the ATI drivers. I'm not sure exactly how you do this in Suse.

Have you checked yast to see if it has any available ATI packages to install?

Errm, how would I check that?

Hehe im a n00bie :(
