Gnome related questions

After leaving linux for 4 months, the withdrawal symptoms has hit me. This time, I opted for Fedora Core 2. I have been using SuSE before, and KDE, so this Gnome thing for me is quite new. I think I have gotten the hang of it, but there are a few things that I cannot manage to sort out on my own or by searching through the forums so I started a new topic.

1) Is it possible to use the gnome file browser as the default action when I double click a folder? I can't find anything in the preferences bit in the main menu, nor did I have enough courage to try and use a new default action for folders when I double click them.

2) Sound hotkey - I managed to map my laptop sound up and down buttons to Gnome, but when I turn it up and down it makes no difference.

Thanks guys and girls! and I apologize if I reposted something.

If you're seeing the volume popup when you press the buttons but your volume isn't changing then you're out of luck. This is a bug in the gnome volume keys handling: it changes the "volume" channel of your sound device, this isn't always the channel you want.

I don't understand what you mean. What happens at the moment when you double click a folder?

It opens a new window every time I double click a folder, much like the Win95 days.

Actually im having the very same problem, I want it to open the folder in the window that is already open. I hate the fact that gnomes filemanager opens up a new window everytime I open a new folder.

Help? =)

Edit menu -> Prefrences -> behaviour tab -> "Always open in browser window" check box

it still opens a new window, everytime I click on a folder a new window pop-ups, but this time in browser window. That's atleast what I think, gonna try it later ^_^

I have the same problem. i like not to open new windows.

The open in browser window opens it in nautilus browser view (ie: with the pannel on the side for tree view etc and other stuff).

It fixed the poblem for me.

Ignore :
Theres something in the "Configuration Editor" under system tools.

/ > apps > nautilus > preferences > windows_always_new

That looks like the right setting, though it doesnt seam to have any affect for me. I dont know where those settings are saved

Well, well, it worked. Use what said above and it works ^_^

alternativally, you hold down the shift key while opening a folder. The folders remeber the size and location on screen from when you had them last open.
