More Info?

What is the exact message? Is there any information in /var/log/XFree86.log (or whatever the name of that log file is...)

Can you start any window managers? Do you get to the graphical login prompt? The only time I've seen an error like that was when my video card driver was misconfigured.

The messages i get are

"There was an error starting GNOME settings daemon some things such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly . The settings daemon restarted to many times. Gnome will try to restart the daemon next time you log in."
Afterwords i get another message:

Application "nautilus" (process16244) has crashed to due a fatal Error (aborted)

and then i get "there was a problem registering the panel with the bonobo-activation server. The error code is :3 The panel will now exit

after the messages i'am able to go in but the panel doesn't display what i have open and my desktop doesn't have any icons and some apps don't seem to work
