gnome pannel bar missing.Help!
Hi, I meet a problem with my desktop when I try to use xmanger in XP to remote login my Fedora 7 desktop. After I logout and come back to Fedora PC, the pannels are gone and I have to use terminal typing command to open applications such as Firefox or vmware. If I minimize the application and it disapears as well.

Because I don't have the root permission for that Fedora PC, is there any way I can get my previous desktop profile back? I am suffering the inconvenience for a while and have no idea to do about it.

this may be kind of a bug - because i had the very same - however i had it in KDE

the procedure is simple
i tell you what i did for my KDE disappearing panel and most likely it is exactly the same procedure for gnome

in your USER folder there is a folder
for you may be

i totally removed that ( delete ) if in doubt - rename it something different
then kill the Xserver
restart Xserver
it will now create all desktop anew - just like at the VERY first start after initial installation.

alternate and much better solution would be:

if you have a BACKUP of your working space
then restore the .gnome folder from your last working backup

for the future

backup !!

this happened to me several times during the last 2 months since may newest clean isntall of the newest versions - never before and i guess the problem may soon be solved and never occur again sometimes in the future
