recently, i started having problems with gnome on my rh9 box.
although i am able to login by using KDE, when i try to use GNOME, the first window where it shows the components starts behaving peculiar. the components that are previously loaded starts to be loaded again. after a few minutes this first screen vanishes and i am left with this light blue background. no panel, no shortcut, nothing at all. checked my xfree86 log but couldnt find anything except a few warnings about monitor resolutions. btw, although i am able to login with kde, when i try to launch any system settings dialog (ie display, network, etc. ), nothing happens.
please help, i am a newbie and i do not want to switch back to windows.....

create a new user and login into gnome and check if the problem still is there. if it disappears login into the terminal and remove .gnome folder for the user. your settings will revert to default which should restore the problems or copy the data to the new user you created

adduser username
passwd username

or

redhat-config-users

gnome>system settings> users and groups

if everything fails reinstall the gnome packages

well, creating a new user did not work. i just kept receiving lots of crash messages since each component is loaded over and over again. i need a solution to this problem without installing gnome again. i has been only a few week i installed rh9.

i am working on gnome on redhat 9 and i dont have any problems for the last 4 months. so sorry that issue is not reproducible here. maybe someone here can help you better. hold on
