Gnome login problem!
I just recently installed Debian 3.0 r4 and I'm having problems getting logged into the Gnome display manager.
I have several questions regarding this: When my Debian boots up, the default display manager Gnome, automatically starts up. 1) Where can I modify which one's supposed to be default? The display manager login window comes up. This is where I have problems. I enter my username and password, and click OK. Then the screen flickers and goes black for one second, and then comes back to the exact same login window. I can't get further! 2) What is wrong? I have checked .gnome-errors file in my homedir, and the last line there says something interesting: Code:
/usr/bin/gnome-session: No such file or directory One more question: 3) How do I kill the login window, and get back to the terminal login? I've tried changing to another screen with CTRL+ALT+F1, and then 'kill pid', but the login window still lives. I'd really appreciate some tips here, guys! |
Hi there!
It's been a while since I used Debian, but IIRC, in order to select a new display manager you should type xf86config at the terminal. As for going to a terminal login, try hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1. Hope this helps. Will |
No, that's not the answers I was looking for. Need more specific information! I have run xf86config several times to set up display adapter etc, so that the X-server functions properly. Now the problem is still getting logged in, as mentioned in my first post...!
Anyone else knows something about this? |
