Gnome crashes to black screen after boot up (though ctrl-alt-F2 gives a terminal)
Hello all,
I've recently installed FC3 and have had no serious problems to speak of but one: Periodically (and seemingly unrelated to particular system events) my Gnome GUI will crash to a completely black screen as if the monitor has turned off. My initial thought was that I had a hardware problem with the monitor but, as I've mentioned in the header, if I use ctrl-alt-F2 I can go to a terminal with no difficulty. So far the crash seems to occur quite early in a bootup, often (but not exclusively) when I touch the mouse. I don't even have the opportunity to move it to an icon to execute something. Having said that, I have had it occur after I clicked on a program like Firefox or Evolution. I see no pattern here. It might have something to do with my chosen resolution and system specs, as I recall no such difficulty when logging in as root (at 800 x 600 vs. my user-specific 1024 x 768), but I more often than not have trouble-free user sessions as well, which suggests to me that there may be some other conflict at work here. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts. Gossamer |
