gnome can't find the ip for my hostname
whenever i start up gnome and log in, it displays a popup that says it can't find the ip address of my hostname and suggest i go and include the host in /etc/hosts. that doesn't help. gnome and the internet works just fine, but this popup is annoying. first i had a dhcp hostname, different at all startups, and i switched it to a proper name which i like more. but the error remains.

try out these posts, and if they don't help, do an LQ search for "gnome /etc/hosts" and you'll get a bunch of similar threads.
