Gnome and RAM

Is it normal for some ram to not be listed in the system monitor? It's missing 142MB of ram which could be used in the future. Up till now I've believed it's just the ram allocated for X, and the rest of it is running everything below X. Info?

Hi,

Linux does reserve system memory. That is why if you cat /proc/meminfo you will notice that alot of your memory is 'being used' even though there may be nothing running.
