Gnome and GTK
So I installed Mandrake recently and wanted to load up some graphical apps. To my suprise I had found out that I had a higher version of GTK than many of the programs supported (most supported 1.2 and not 2+).
This is how I tried to troubleshoot this problem: Quote:
So now at this point, I'm frustrated and I don't feel confident in my system's stability after me having played around with these libraries so much. I haven't done much configuration to my system and I'm totally willing to reinstall. My question is... if I installed Gnome with KDE at the beginning instead of just KDE, then would I likely have these libraries? |
Most applications on Mandrake use GTK2.x but some still use GTK1.x. The two are not compatible, so you need both GTK 1.x and GTK 2.x to be able to run these apps properly. By the way instead of manually installing these needed libraries, use urpmi so that the packages are installed from official Mandrake repositories. There are good urpmi guides at easyurpmi and zebulon.org.uk.
