GMail looks so...DIFFERENT!
I seem to have somehow corrupted the screen layout of GMail in Kubuntu...it is really not the way it looks in a Windows machine.
Is there any way to return it to a more recognizable view? In particular, I don't care for the "next page" part where the text would normally be scrollable and viewable on the original page. Any ideas? ...and can I get GTalk to work on this setup? BTW: It took me almost 30 attempts to install Kubuntu...it failed at the last (6-0f-6) at the 92% point repeatedly. I was THIS CLOSE to trying pclinux.iso before it finally made it. :tisk: Finally got it to install, but it might have been the effect of the moon past nadir that made it work. I didn't notice any posts like my request..... |
Please let us know what browser you are using.
I recommend Firefox 2 And clear your cookies & caches if there are any and retry. Give a more complete and precise description of what you mean different. |
Hi.
Ubuntu is strange and Kubuntu is even stranger. If you want less trouble try that pclinux.iso of yours. It'll be worth that. To solve your gmail problem, post us which browser are you using. This is an important info, since not all browsers display the same page in the same way. The second thing we need to to know, is what resolution are you using in Windows and in Linux. Different resolutions can cause such problems I think. |
I am using Firefox 1.5.0.12 for Linux-based distros.
Everything else looks OK...Firefox browser.....Kubuntu desktop and all else....just that the screen for the GMail is spread all over the place...not that I cannot see it all without scrolling...but it even has a Pg 2 part to it when the e-mail is longer than can be displayed on the one screen. Ain't that weird? Resolution is 1024 x 768, which is pretty normal for a CRT. |
Uuuh, please update. This is last century's Firefox. :)
Recent is 2.0.0.7. |

I cannot get all this into the command line,

it just takes one line, I hit enter to get to the next line and it disappears....do I do this one line at a time, on one line separated with commas, hyphens, underscores or what? If I just click I get something called konquerer..is that what I want? I tried a command line, one line at a time but it does nothing.... |
I am soooooooo....totally lost here.

Open a terminal, then cd to where you put the tar.gz file, then type 1st cmd in (substitute your filename for 'file') and wait for the prompt to re-appear before typing the next line, and so on.
|
Better yet open synaptic or adept click reload, then look for firefox and update it along with pretty much everything else while your at it.
|
Ahem, Firefox file is available as a handy binary and doesn't have to be compiled.
Just check if Kubuntu's got a package for a recent FF; I'm 99,99% sure it has. |

The only trade-off I can see so far is the dial-up vs DSL defaults. PCLinuxOS won't just figger it out itself like Kubuntu does. Sorry, but the GUI's and the appearance of PCL are a lot friendlier. I am still gonna walk about in Kubuntu for a while..but not as a primary distro. Prolly the best reason for the change to PCL is that I am a pc baby who was raised on fig-Forth and Pascal and then NT stuff. |
