glibc version and install issues

Hi,

I'm installing business Objects and one of it's dependent components is as per below.

I'm n Red Hat Enterprise 5.0 but my machine does not have a subscription yet (will be getting one later)

******************************
Linux: Your system is missing required components (STU00120):
******************************

Missing patch: glibc-2.5-18

I ran a rpm -qa and find I have glibc-2.5-12 already.

I can't find a download for glibc-2.5-18 on the net (or if I do it's of the wrong type - error msg is 'Can't install a different arch of 'tmp/glibc-2.5-18.fc6.i386.rpm')

Now, I have this rpm

glibc-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386.rpm

which seems like a later version which is good, no? since I assume they're back compatible (shouldn't assume, I know)

when I try and run this

[o2mars@localhost ~]$ rpm -i glibc-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386.rpm
warning: glibc-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 37017186
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc-common = 2.5-24.el5_2.2 is needed by glibc-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386

I then try

[o2mars@localhost ~]$ rpm -i glibc-common-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386.rpm
warning: glibc-common-2.5-24.el5_2.2.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 37017186
error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/__db.000

weirder and weirder! Any suggestions on how to haul myself back to being able to install Bus Objects correctly?

Cheers. Ed

Hi Agrouf, thanks for the tip. We managed to get the RH subscription early so just doing an yum update now which should clear up that package and associated dependencies stuff.

This is for the live system that'll be going on customer site, so I'll see if that unixODBC thing I was onto you last week about is still an issue with this set up. Never got an answer as to whether unixODBC was needed for BOXI 3.0 and was still going off the R2 documentation.

Cheers for the reply anyhoo
