Question glib/xchat/gtk problem

wel, this problem started when installing xchat. my version of glib was outdated, so, i got the newest version, i installed it and everything went fine i think. but the xchat thing still says that glib was installed wrong. so i reinstalled it a few times but its the same problem. so on the gtk site, i also decided to update gtk but it also doesnt recognize glib, so i was wondering if anyone could help me to solve this problem, any help would be greatly appreciated. and i am a 2-day old linux

Oh yeah, mandrake 9.1 in gnome

sounds to me like you're trying to install from source, which you don't want to be dong. if your mandrake system is set up correctly, you should be able to run "urpmi xchat" and nothign else at all, which will install and upgrade everything as needed.
