Exclamation GLib 1.2.8 & 1.2.10 conflict

Hi all....

i need help understanding all that "lib" and library and GLib stuff, and id like to know how to uninstall a previous version of GLib because they say it creates conflicts having two versions installed, some configuration program told me that i had 1.2.8 and 1.2.10 versions installed, but i do a locate search ( with db updated of course) and i find no 1.2.10, id like to know where the configuration script gets that 1.2.10 version output, id also like to know why the variables menctioned in config error output such as LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_RUN_PATH are empty (echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH ; echo $LD_RUN_PATH and i have no output) and if i need to add the correct path to my libraries to that varibles, somebody please tell me where to find the path to my GLib libraries path ... and is the command this one? ( export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="my/libraries/path" ) right?... mm... well, i want to know if i have done anything wrong to get to this complicated procedures, i mean, i love spending a whole night trying to compile some program (and its dependencies) and finding probs like this one, i really do, but it gets to a point where i just want to run my prog "smoothly"
.... hehe.. well too many questions in this post, but id really REALLY appreciate someone who dedicates some time answering this post based on their vast knowledge on linux systems =D ... thankz....

PHEW!! i know
