GIF and JPG file formats.

Kernel, Slackware 12.0

How can I generate a GIF or JPG file? Only by means of a camera? Or there are other ways?

Let's say I want to draw a straight line and a circle, and send them, over the Internet, to an ignorant man to explain to him what they are without having to write too much. If I had a camera, I could make a drawing on a paper sheet and take a shot, thereafter plugging in the camera to my computer. But let's further suppose I lack a camera.

With these assumptions made, what is the easiest way for me, the man in the street, to use the Internet so that he, the ignorant man, can see the line and the circle in his computer screen?

Sorry for this complicated way of doing a question but I feel I must be clear. Personally, I'd use PostScript to do the job, but someone is asking me to send only these formats.

???? I've got a sneaking suspicion that I misunderstood your questions. You're not just asking how to draw a circle and a line and save it in the postscript/gif/jpg formats, are you?

If so, can't you just draw a line and a circle in gimp and save it as .ps or .gif or .jpg?

Man, you are great. That was exactly the meaning, and you provided exactly the solution: I happen to have Gimp.
