Yeah, that's what I figured. I'd rather do it by reloading packages, because it gives me a chance to clean out the old kernels. I must have 6 in there now, and a fresh install every once and a while couldn't hurt. So I think I'll manually edit the --get list and just let the Synaptic update process handle everything else. With a little luck, it will give a reasonable error message if I try to install something not operational under the current kernel.
