Getting started,

My name is daniel, and I am an adict...
Can you keep my windows CD from me please, and dont give it to me no matter how much i beg?
I have spent many years using windows, infact most of my computer life was spent in a windows desktop enviornment. I grew to know it, got used to blue screens of death, and became addicted. I guess I'm probably like everyone else in the world who knows anything beyond installing a simple peice of software... windows sucks. It's no secret, everyone knows it. I always planned on switching to linux, I had installed it once, but never got my modem to work so it was useless. I know Unix Shell Script as well I know DOS (enough to get around and make simple programs to do copying stuff). But I never made the big leap to linux. I'm just like most people I know, always talk about going to Linux but never do it. So I decided I would have to force my self to learn by making a comitment to install linux and use only linux for 1 month. Well I just installed it. I have DSL now, and it is shared over a network by two computers, so I only had to tell Linux to use DHCP, and as soon as I installed, I was connected to the internet. No configuration what so ever... god windows networking sucks. So here I am on the internet with linux, its like a whole new world, but it is so big i dont know where to begin. So i will begin with getting my resolution and color depth higher. I have an Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400, it wasn't on the list of video cards, so i choose not on the list, and am running at some really crappy resolution with 16 colors. I cant find where to change this at, im hoping i wont need a driver to atleast get it up to 800x640. I also want to install AOL Instant Messenger, they actually make it for Linux, so i downloaded the Linux all os version, and i tried to go into the folders of the installed files but it gave me some error.
I'm running Mandrake 6.5 BTW, thanks for reading my story.

Download the Nvidia driver, search LQ for further info on installing same.

The solution to your Windoze CD problem is in your sig.

6.5 of course has no support for things made AFTER.

I was thinking you were using 8.*. 8.* has X 4.* which has support for gf2mx and others.

Glad you've seen the light.
