getting setup

Im new to linux, but what ive done is setup my dell inspiron 8100 laptop with windows XP and VMware to run redhat linux version 7.1. Hopefully this will ease the transition. I have two issues. I cant run startx , I get the "no screens found" problem which I found some terrific threads on, but this leads me to my second problem. Im connecting or rather not connecting to the internet with an orinoco silver wireless pc card connection. Im not sure where to begin. If I cant open X windows Im not really sure how to navigate the internet from tne command line, and if Icant get on the internet any way how can I get the right drivers for these things. If someone could get me started id greatly appreciate it. Ive used linux before, but not much and I was spoiled by the windows interface.
Thanks for any help you can give.

if you have internet connection at the command, you can always use lynx to browse the web in text mode..
or if you know of a site, you can always use ftp to download the files..
