Getting Samba to store DOS read only attributes

I have a samba server that provides file storage for Windows users.

I have a requirement to be able to set the Read Only DOS attribute on some of the files that have been stored to control the actions of MS Word.

Currently if I try to set the value in the "Properties" of the file via the Windows interface the value is not stored.

I found this interesting article at:

(I can't post a URL as this is my first post, I can send it via email if required)

Which has a section that talks about settings such as:

map archive = yes
map system = yes
map hidden = yes

which all seem to work for me, however there does not seem to be a "map readonly = yes" option.

In the paragraph following these settings the following is quoted:

What about the read-only attribute? By default, Samba 2.0 sets this whenever a file does not have the Unix owner write permission bit set. In other words, you can set this bit by changing the permissions of the file to 555.

So is this saying that if I set the file to 555 that I will be able to use the attrib command or the dialogue box in Windows to retain the state of read only.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance
