Getting out of command prompt

How do I get out of the command prompt without restarting my computer? Is that what it is called, the command prompt? Is it the same as the shell and gui?

What error did you get when you typed startx? Most likely your XWindows configuration isn't set quite right and you'll need to fix whatever the problem is. Also look in /var/log/XFree86.log for more details.
