start a program like kppp (part of KDE)

wvdial is console based and generally works like a charm

Redhat offers all manner of wierd and wonderful ways of getting online... i remember RedHat 7 ... is used ifup ppp

nevertheless KDE's kppp is excellent.

You can use Kppp or RH PPP Dialer. Kppp can be found in the KDE menu and RH PPP Dialer can be found under the gnome menu. There is an alternative to these, and that is to use a chat script. Here is an example

pppd /dev/modem 57600 connect '/usr/sbin/chat "" ATDT5665651 CONNECT ' noipdefault defaultroute user

with this you need to add your ISP's DNS servers into your resolv.conf file like this

you would need to add your pap authentication to your pap-secrets file like this

# Secrets for authentication using PAP
# client server secret IP addresses ppp0 PassWord * PassWord

This may be a little much for a connection but I like this way instead of the wizards.

Also I don't know if you can Connect to Internet Providers Like AOL, MSN, Compuserve, and such, I don't know why but I have heard bad things about connecting to like AOL.

I use ISP that charge a low monthy price and unlimited access. Like HostingStorm or Access4Cheap. They may not support Linux but if you need Information to help you connect they will give you as much as you need.

Good Luck
