Getting Magic Jack to work in ubuntu 9.10
Good day Ladies/gentlemen
I was just introduced to Linux official a few days ago : The problem I am having I am trying to Set up Magic Jack on Ubuntu 9.10, and I have no clue how to get it to work, I need your help ! Thanks in Advance: |
They do have plans for a Linux client "real soon now"
But, until then, getting MagicJack to work in an Ubuntu environment means either running a Windows environment or figuring out the codes and setting up a VOIP client. Neither of these two options, from what I can tell in reading discussions, works as well as one might hope. |
I'd try the move install from xp like the adobe CS move in ubuntu or wait.

I bought a MagicJack a few months ago. It wouldn't run in Linux, and it wouldn't run in a VM. I found a refurbished Atom processor system for under $200 and run it on that (My main concern was finding something that used as little electricity as possible). My phone bill was ~50/month. It is now $1.5. Total investment $220 + $1.5/month. In 4.5 months I break even (Well, 5 really since I've already paid for the first year when I bought it). I don't have to mess w/ protecting my Linux system from anything the MJ might do, and since nobody uses the Windows system other than the phone, it is pretty stable.

If you're interested in using VOIP, try this product from Nettalk http://www.nettalk.com Unlike, the magicjack which needs a computer to remain on to send and receive calls. Nettalk connects to the router only. No computer necessary. No Operating systems worries. The unit cost only $69.95 and includes first year of service. The regular service is $30 a year. Just ten bucks more than the magicjack. Nettalk Duo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH48gedVAVQ Nettalk Duo Setup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlqdnxL-fqM&NR=1 |
