Getting Intellimouse Explorer to work in Red Hat 8.0 and some real newbie questions
Hey I installed Linux not too long ago on my machine and wanted to get the side buttons on my explorer to work so I could browse the web easier..
I goofed around with with thing in /etc/X11/XF86Config but got it on the point where the wheel doesnt really work anymore
Could someone tell me what the mouse section of that file should look like, my mouse is a Intellimouse Explorer the PS/2 version, if its easier I can use USB instead
For the newbie questions
I had a lot of HD space so I installed Gnome, X Window and KDE cuz I wanted to goof around in each of them, as it stands the machine only boots into GNOME, how can I change that?
also I saw some topics to make the mouse work and they said that you need to write scripts and stuff and I dont know how to do that either...All the help is greatly appreciated!!

you don't mention which version of linux you installed.
There are various methods of switching desktops.
Under RedHat type switchdesk xxx at the command prompt where xxx is name of alternative desktop
eg/ switchdesk kde
Under Mandrake, run Madnrake Control Centre and go to boot. Tell the boot manager you don't want to log straight into a desktop
and it will stop at init5 presenting you with the login screen where you can choose which desktop to go for.
You can type telinit 5 as root in a terminal and that will throw you out of desktop into log in screen. (telinit 3 throws you out of X altogether and back to login prompt)
Or, you can log out of desktop by clicking on log out and choosing end session. This achieves same result as above.
There are probably several other methods for this situation. These are the ones I know.

You should be able to pick KDE from the "Session" menu on the logon screen.

in a root terminal, type /usr/sbin/mouseconfig see if your mouse is available from the list. (it has a microsloth section, your mouse might be in there.)
