Well, after a week and a half of trying to download Mandrakelinux 10.1 via ftp (on broadband) and having it stall out, I gave up on it.
So, I went and downloaded a boot.iso for 10.0 and installed via ftp and it worked perfectly! Woo-hoo!!!
So, thanks for the offer, but I now have a perfectly running version of Mandrake 10.0.
I have an 800Mhz AMD Duron processor with 450Mhz RAM, a CD-ROM, a CD-RW, IOMEGA Zip drive, Cannon scanner, HP Laserjet 6p, and a 20G hard drive and it all works wonderfully.
I've gone to Mozilla (Konqueror is ok, but I'm just using it for browsing my drives) for the internet.
I'm having trouble installing Java Runtime Environment 1.5.01, tho. For some reason, no matter how many different installation instructions I've followed, I can't get Mozilla to recognize the plugin.
And the errors I was getting during install when I couldn't get the install to work were numerous...mostly when certain packets were downloading. the install screen would halt and I'd get a prompt that said:
"Error installing gnome-icon-theme-1.1.6-3mdk.noarch. Continue?" <yes> <no>
or
"Error installing vim-common-6.2-14mdk.i586. Continue?" <yes> <no>
But I'm past that point now...I guess the FTP gods were kinder to me in the new year than in the last...hehehe.
Question, tho...would using "drakconf" help me in installing scribus? I couldn't get that to work either.
Thanks for the reply,
Mark
