Getting dbus-daemon[608]: [system] Rejected send message error

I keep getting error messages in auth.log and syslog of the follwing type, every time I print something:

dbus-daemon[608]: [system] Rejected send message, 0 matched rules; type="method_return", sender=":1.8" (uid=116 pid=654 comm="avahi-daemon:.....

I am using a new install of XUbuntu 18.04.5, kernel 5.4.0-87-generic in a Vaio corei7 notebook.

Grateful for any help with this issue. I just saw I post with similar error messages, that where solved by merging conf files and adding users to groups (actually, the method was the other way round), things that I have no idea of how to do.

Best Regards,

Chico Miraglia

Hi Chico,

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Part of the error message you provided seems to reference the avahi daemon. Could you give more details on your printing setup (from CUPS, for example) ? Is the printer local (plugged in to your computer), directly networked (... has its own IP address), shared (plugged into another computer on your network) .. ?

With a bit more info, members here (some in particular often respond knowledgeably to printing-related questions ... @ferrari - perhaps you can help here) will be in a better position to respond.

Cheers,

Rick

Problems with dbus, avahi daemon and printer

Dear Rick,

Thanks for your answer; information about Cups I do not know how to get. However the other questions I do have an answer: The Brother HL2270DW
printer is connected via wifi to my own notebook and works in a home network (other people in the house can also use it) and has its own IP address. The error is registered in the log files only if I print something. Perhaps noteworthy o mention that the printing of a document (e.g.,pdf) works fine, except for the error log which also includes

comm="avahi-daemon: starting up " label="unconfined") interface="(unset)" member="(unset)" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.120" (uid=1000 pid=4356 comm="atril /home/chico/Logica-Saber/rls.pdf " label="unconfined")

Best regards,

Chico Miraglia

Hi Chico,

OK - thanks for the info. So just to be clear, printing actually functions correctly, but you are wondering about the error messages in the log, right ?

If that's the issue, it goes beyond my particular knowledge of the linux printing subsystem. As mentioned earlier, other members here have much more knowledge in that area and may respond.

You may have done this already, but if I were in your situation I would begin with a simple Google search of the main error text and go from there.

Wish I could help you more - let us know if anything else.

Rick

Dear Rick,

Thanks for your message. Yes, that is exactly the question: printing works but I get the mentioned errors in the auth and sys logs. I have tried the Google way, to no avail.

Best regards,

Chico Miraglia

Hey Chico,

A quick search of your first string of error messages produced these links (you may have tried them already, but just in case) :

https://superuser.com/questions/1070...system-upgrade

http://support.brother.com/g/s/id/li...redirect=on#30

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ssages-744493/

https://access.redhat.com/solutions/5426191

.... there are others.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Cheers,

Rick

Dear Rick,

I looked at the third one you mentioned. It was not much help since I do not know how to add user ids and merge conf files...

Best wishes,

Chico Miraglia

Hey again chico,

Adding a user to a group is pretty basic :

Code:
usermod -a -G addedgroup1,addedgroup2 user
Check out :

Code:
man usermod
for more options.

Cheers !

Rick
