Getting a 1024x768 res??
I recently installed Red Hat 7.2, however my X will only show up in 800x600 res, and if I try to set it to 1024x768 my monitor zaps out.. I'm able to get a 1024x768 res under Win98 using a Default monitor setting.. To add to this hassle under Linux is that my moitor is an older Likom monitor so it's not selectable during setup.. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know I'm reaching with this one..

you might want to manually edit your XF86Config to properly add your horizontal and vertical refresh rates for your monitor..
also what default color level are you using ?? -trickykid |
Where would I access my XF86Config?
I have tried 16bit, I would prefer not to use 8bit, I would rather a larger resolution than crappy colors.. :) Thanks, |
you can access the file in your /etc/X11/ directory..
also check your monitor specs for the correct vert and horiz refresh rates.. and compare them or edit them in that file: XF86Config -trickykid |
Right on. Thanks. Here's one more questions regarding this thread, does anyone know the easiest way to check the specs for my vert/horz refresh rates. The monitor is older so no drivers, is there a benchmark program that might be able to puit my monitor through the ringer.. ?
Thanks, |
try searching on www.google.com for you monitor, someone is bound to have specs for your monitor out there in cyberspace.

You could try http://www.likomusa.com/Products.htm and see if your model is in there.

Yeah I checked their site through and through, looks like they don't have my model listed there anymore, too old I guess..
But thank you for the idea... |
Hi there,
Best thing to do is to boot into Windows (If you can!) and set everything up how you like it. Now just enter your monitors OSD and note down the horiz/vert frequencys. Cheers, -=R4z0r |
