I am a real newbie. I just installed Arklinux on a partition of my computer. But before I want to start working with linux I need music. In Arklinux I have XMMS to play mp3's. It plays the music but only silence comes out of my speakers. In windows with winamp it al works perfect but in linux not. What could be the problem. Where would I start. I'll repeat, I know practically nothing about linux, I just want to start learning....
# Red Hat 7.3 down configuration commands setup leads to several configuration tools
# Red Hat 7.3 up configuration commands
Configure soundcard: redhat-config-soundcard
Configure X server: redhat-config-xfree86
Configure network: redhat-config-network
Manage software: redhat-config-packages
Mmmmm sorry, I can't give you uor mind reading license. Becouse It's not red hat linux but Ark linux. Probably not really famous but I just picked a random one since I don't know shit about it. Do you know a solution in Arklinux?
Last time I've tried to launch an mp3 using xmms, and I had a window opening to tell me that because of software patent shit, xmms didn't support mp1,2,3 anymore
f**** that I hope that won't come to europe so that we'll still be able to download free quality software oversea.
I have no idea about Ark Linux. If it's rpm based, you could try the rpm in the link for mp3 support or see if there is some support help on their download site.
"However, since Ark Linux is still in the alpha stage development, there are some packages that are not thoroughly tested, and it is missing some features too."
You might consider trying a more mature distro, such as Slackware, Debian, or Mandrake.
