Gentoo Portage Problem

Awhile ago I didn't have time to update my kermel from 2.4.x so did something to stop portage from looking for packages that required the 2.6 kernel including gentoo-sources. So now that I have some time I want to update my kernel to 2.6 and I can't because when I try 'emerge gentoo-sources' it will show me the current version of gentoo-source but will not emerge anything other than a 2.4.x

So I could really use some help un-doing what I did months ago. Thanks for any and all help.

Maybe you chose the 2..4 profile instead of the 2.6 profile?
Check out the gentoo handbook and jump straight to the section titled "Choosing the Right Profile"
