Gentoo install trouble - Kernel Panic !
Hi,
I installed gentoo linux according to the instructions using genkernel to compile the kernel. At reboot i got this problem. Gentoo detects my non-existent usb storage device and prints this: - ------------------------- mount: Mounting /dev/md/0 on /new_root failed: No such file or directory mount: Mounting devfs on /new_root/dev failed: No such file or directory Running pivot_root ... pivot_root: pivot_root: No such file or directory Running init ... /linuxrc: cannot open dev/console: No such file or directory Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init! -------------------------- The Caps and Scoll LEDs then continue to flash. Someone on the gentoo forums suggested i should try changing the "root= " line in lilo but that did not work. Having already failed recently with RH9 (RTL8139 nic sunk me) this will be a big blow my ego would not be able to recover from. So please help. Thanks! :) |
I would try to compile the kernel by hand first of all.I got no idea what genkernel does and how.I did install it one time and started to run it and killed it immidiately. There is no man page for it and no help available at the command.Don't like to get my kernel screwed by something undocumented.
