Gentoo Boot

Probably something that I'm doing that's so simple it's stupid. I stick in the gentoo 2005 AMD64 boot/install cd that I've made. It gives me the command line and i type in gentoo to start the boot. It then says booting gentoo.... and loading and then my screen goes black and nothing happens whatsoever. What "minor" (probably major) detail am I missing? Thanks!

Sounds like you might have a bad frame buffer driver in your kernel... try something a little more conservative or try not to use a frame buffer at all at first...

WHat?!

I could be wrong... but when you configured your kernel, did you put any frame buffer support in there?

In my past experience choosing the wrong frame buffer driver (found under Device Drivers->Graphics Support in the 2.6 kernel) can cause that symptom... assuming it is in fact going blank after you have selected your linux system and the kernel started to book.

No, all I'm doing his hitting enter to have the kernel boot up. At least that's what I gathered I needed to do from the install manual on gentoo.org. Then I do everything else... I think.
