Gentoo


During the Gentoo install I typed scripts/bootstrap.sh
And it trys to resolve sites and it says failed: Host not found
Could anyone help me get past this

your network interface doesn't seem to be working. can you ping other sites?
and please use a better thread title next time, e.g. "Host not found during Gentoo bootstrap" would have been a lot better here.

Yeah it doesnt work, is there a way to install the bootstrap without the internet?

only from a livecd download.

I dont understand what you just said. Is there a way to continue even though I selected stage 1. Or do I have to start over and select stage 3

if you can not get online, you need to obtain a livecd release, which contains the prebuilt packages. you can not complete a stage1 installation without a net connection, or local collection of all pacakges required. you could do a stage3 if you wanted, but you'd need to start again.

Cant I install portage from the Universal 2004.2 cd I have?

if it contains the packages that will be required, you could try to copy them from the cd to /usr/portage/distfiles
