Genius FaceCam 312 + kubuntu 10.10 setup configuration help
I use Genius FaceCam 312 doesn't correctly work on Kubuntu 10.10.
Once trying skype test camera (or Kopete) or guvcview the camera's led lights for a seconds and turned off without any response no output is appeared.
- However, that camera is supported for linux kernel 2.6.21 above and my linux is 2.6.36..
- I tried to fix the bandwidth by the following two commands but no new:
sudo rmmod uvcvideo
sudo modprobe uvcvideo quirks=128
for a more permanent fix I created the following file:
/etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf
and I add the following line:
options uvcvideo quirks=128

Reason: improvement and to be more attracting Edit: <Mod>Improve title
Please use descriptive titles; they are more likely to attract subject matter experts and it saves the rest of us having to check the question to see if we can answer it. A good title would include Genius FaceCam 312.
type webcam in a terminal click enter
it loads a cam graber
it may or my not help
you can also test the cam this way
click system, preferences
go down the list to multimedia systems selector, start it click video
try v4l and v4l2 click the bottom test button for each 1
What are the webcam ID numbers? If you don't know, use the command "lsusb" and post back the results. The line noting the webcam might make it easy by mentioning Genius.
Thanks for the advice and thanks for being with me.
The results: modysama@ubuntu:~$ webcam
reading config file: /home/modysama/.webcamrc

Have you tried to boot linux without the webcam and to hot plug it, or boot with it, unmount and remove it, then hot plug it?
I'll take a guess. Have you looked at the results of the command "v4l-info" in case it tells you something new? You might be able to edit the /dev/video file that it reads. Is there another installation or a live-cd(10.04?) that boots this webcam and that would produce a /dev/video file you could compare and copy?
I found this in the specification of the 312, and they compare with some but not all results of "guvcvue" that you listed. There are only two resolutions for video.

176 x 144,
160 x 120

** thorkelljarl: Thank you.
As I cleared I am "just an interesting beginner"
Please:
- How is unmount?
- what do you mean by hot-plugging?
-

I can't understand that
Is there another installation or a live-cd(10.04?) Actully I don't know how can I check that..!
Please provide me in more details, sir.
The resolutions that you are getting may be those that are native to the hardware. The higher resolutions listed as produced may be after an enhancement multiplier with the Windows driver. What resolution do you get running the webcam as video? Does it still not run in "cheese"?
"Hot-plug" refers to plugging the webcam into a running linux to see how linux mounts the webcam.
Did you use the command "v4l-info"?
I have a system with a BIOS that will boot a 4GB USB flash stick and have a persistent installation of linux on it(Mint 9). Can you make a persistent USB installation of that version of linux(Kubuntu?) that had this webcam working out of the box?
If the cam then works with the USB installation, you might use "v4l-info" and look at the file that the command reads from, "/dev/video" to see what is listed and compare the version with the webcam working with that without, your Kubuntu 10.10, and edit.
Is the version of the of the "uvcvideo" module in Kubuntu 10.10 the latest version?

I recently tried the webcam on:
Kerenel 2.6.35-22 generic mini Hp laptop.
It works too out of box on every software.
Finally, I re-installed kubuntu 10.10 (2.6.35-22 generic). Problem is still.
Actually, I started to think the problem is in my laptop !
my laptop is HP probook 4520s .
Now the only different between two devices is the type.
I don't have any clue for the reson of webcam probem
