Generic version of SuSE 9.2 Pro

I am looking to buy SuSE 9.2 and on under the new/used section I came across people selling "generic" versions of 9.2 Pro on 5 Cds. They are claiming that it is the same thing are the retail version just without the manuals. I found the manuals online so if I bought these CDs I should be set right? Or are these a scaled down version of the retail CDs? By the way they are saying these sold under GP License, I have no idea what the means. Sorry if I sound dumb but I have a very limited knowledge of Linux and these "generic" versions are being sold for $7.99.

if they're what i (and i'd imagine most others here) think they are, someone simply downloaded the freely available ISO files and burned them to cd to sell. if that is the case, you would legally only have to pay for media and shipping costs, nothing more (this is in the GPL also if i remember right). i'm not sure if SuSE 9.2 is available for download yet, i haven't been keeping up recently. anyway, the GPL is what you agree to when you use most open source softwares like Linux.

you could buy the discs in the box and get perhaps an extra disc or two with proprietary software, as well as documentation and sometimes fun stuff. or you could download the ISOs yourself and burn them to disc yourself and install it.

While you can always go to their website and download/burn the ISO files yourself for free, I think it would be a good idea to just buy a real copy from suse. Every dollar you give them helps them build you a better product... Maybe after you have tried suse and decided you like it, you might want to go ahead a buy a boxed set?

I think the box set includes installation support over the phone and e-mail, as well as a good manual, and I think you can get it in double-sided DVD format, so it installs faster, and you don't have to swap so many dics in and out all the time. I think the real-deal is worth the money.
