General Commands

Hi, I was wondering if there were a list of general commands.

I have noticed that in Linux, you cannot just type in "setup" and it will run setup, instead you have to add "sh setup". I have also noticed that there are many variations on this, and was wondering what the difference between "sh" and "chmod" and "rpm" is.

I know that "rpm" only applies to rpm files, but does it performa similar action to "sh", or is it different?

Also "vi" is equivilent to "edit" in DOS, and "ls" is "dir", but what is the equivilent of "cls"?

Also how do i get it to display the full root (instead of the last directory) i.e. if i am in /root/storage/ how do i get it to display "/root/storage" instead of just "/storage"?

I was also wondering if someone could also explain the difference between Mandrake 9 and Red Hat 9?

I will keep my other questions for later :)

Thanks ppl, your help is appreciated!

here's an alphabetical list of Linux commands:
http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/

clear = cls

i believe you have to edit ~/bashrc to get your command prompt to have different properties.

mandrake 9 and redhat 9 are two separate linux distributions. you can read reviews all over the web, including here at linuxquestions http://www.linuxquestions.org/reviews/index.php and at www.distrowatch.com.
