GDM login in problem
 

During login I get this message :
"GDM could not write to your authorization file.this could mean that
you are out of disk space
or that your home directory could not be opend for writing.In any case
it is not possible to log in...."
I have plenty of free disk space ..
I have root access and I can login to root without any problem ..
unfortunately I dont know how to
fix this problem .. Please help me.

So what, you just can't login as your normal user?

If so, you can login as root and create another user and login as that user as a quick fix.

Another question is, whether your /home is not situated on a different partition where the disk space is running out?

Too little information to make conclusions.
Login as root, open terminal and run `df -h` in order to see what partitions are mounted and how much space left on each.
In case it is just some misconfiguration with your user's home directory, then creating a new user will fix it.

BTW, which version of "redhat desktop" are you running there?

yes i can't log in
i don't have access to root account
i even cant check ma partition since i can not log in.
aim running red hat enterprise Linux 4.5

Wait, at first post you said you have no problem login as root? You'll have to have root account to solve this problem.

as the error says, it might be problem with permissions, or a mount problem. in either case you'll need to fix it as a root.

how can i have root access? since i cant login.

Boot with a live cd / flash drive and check disk space on /home and permissions.

Is there any procedure to boot with live cd, and how will i check the disk space when i can't login

Here's the procedure:
1. Place Live CD in CD/DVD Drive
2. Boot the computer
3. Use the file manager to mount all partitions on your hard drive
4. Open a terminal window
5. Run df -h
